Contents Restoration and Packout in California
What happens to your things while the building is repaired. Inventoried, packed, cleaned, stored and brought back — and the inventory is the part that decides whether any of it goes smoothly.
- Every item photographed and listed before it moves
- You get your copy of the inventory at the start, not the end
- Told plainly what will not come back

Start from what you are worried about
People know what they have noticed rather than what it is called. Each of these points at a different job — and a different level of urgency.
What we can help with
Why the inventory is the whole job
A packout is not a house move. It is a documentation exercise with a van attached, and the document is what your claim is settled against. An itemised inventory with photographs is the difference between being paid for what you lost and being paid for what you can prove. "Contents of bedroom one" is not an inventory.
It is also what protects you. Your belongings are about to go into a vehicle, into a warehouse you have not seen, and into the hands of people you met that morning. Almost every dispute in this part of the trade — missing items, damage in transit, arguments at packback — comes down to whether there was a real list at the start and whether you were given a copy of it. Ask for yours before the first box is taped.
The second thing worth knowing is that speed matters unevenly. Furniture can wait. Wet paper cannot: ink runs and pages fuse within a day or two, and freezing halts it — a domestic freezer will do. Electronics cannot either, because acidic residue keeps corroding the board whether the device is on or off, which is why something that worked fine the next day dies a month later.
And the honest part: not everything comes back. Some textiles, some porous items and some electronics are not economically restorable, and a company that cleans them twice before admitting it has spent your settlement doing it. Being told early is worth more than being told gently.
California specifically
Wildfire smoke is the single biggest thing that makes Californians think about what their ducts are carrying. Fine particulate gets pulled into a return during a smoke event and keeps circulating long after the air outside has cleared.
California is also the one state where duct leakage is routinely tested: Title 24 requires a HERS-verified duct test on most furnace or air-conditioner changeouts, so a duct problem here often surfaces as a failed test rather than as a complaint.
How it works
Three steps, and you decide at the end of them.
-
1
You call and describe the problem
Tell us what you have noticed and where — the room, the smell, the noise, how long it has been going on. Give us your ZIP code and we will match you to a licensed company covering your area. There is no form to fill in.
-
2
A local company takes it from there
They discuss the problem with you directly, arrange a time to inspect, and agree the work and the price with you before anything starts. That conversation is between you and them.
-
3
You decide whether to go ahead
You are under no obligation. If the quote or the approach is not what you wanted, you are free to say no and call someone else.
Common questions
Which areas of California do you cover?
All of it. The quickest way to find out about your own town is to call and give us your ZIP code — if the nearest company is an hour out we will say so rather than waste your afternoon.
How soon can someone come out?
Usually within a few days, following the building work it runs alongside. The exception is wet documents and photographs — those are a same-day call, because freezing in the first day or two is what saves them.
Are the companies licensed and insured?
Yes. We only pass calls to licensed, insured operators working in California, and you are welcome to ask to see a license number on arrival.
What does it cost?
Nothing. We are a referral service: the companies pay us for the introduction, you do not, and you are under no obligation to go ahead with whatever they quote. We are not the company that attends, so the price, the schedule and the guarantee are agreed between you and them.
